Matxalen Bilbao

Dancer, pedagogue and creator, who develops her work from Bilbao.

Over the last 20 years Matxalen has been heavily invested in cultivating her own specific vocabulary and in deepening her personal approach to Dance. She continues to rigorously and methodically insist on her concerns and on forging a coherent path into research. Her specific spheres of interest being the body, movement, the uniqueness of both, the “in between” (in terms of negative space and punctuation of Time) as well as Space/Time organization more generally.
Her works offer the viewer fragility and strength, security and vulnerability, intimacy and daring. Abstraction charged with humanity, they are a play on logic and challenge of accessibility.

Matxalen Bilbao has a Diploma in Basic Education, Human Sciences, from the University of País Vasco and in 2007-2008 obtained her Master in Arts and Sciences (UPV) in Theatre/ Live Performance.
